The Creative Center is proud to present an
Altered Book Exhibit
"An Altered Journey"
Artists Opening October 15, 2011
Saturday, 4-6pm

Twelve artists collectively engaged in the creation of these altered books, which often evolved in surprising ways. To begin, each person either constructed a new book or altered an existing book to express a particular theme. Then, using a "round robin" format to exchange the books, each person in turn added to and built on the theme. In the end, every book contained artwork by all twelve participants.

Grappling with personal preconceptions and the expectations of others can be intimidating; being nudged out of one's creative comfort zone can be unsettling. The process, however, becomes a journey of inspiration and encouragement, producing new horizons of artistic freedom. The resulting altered books express beauty, mystery, playfulness, curiosity, and the camaraderie of a dynamic group of artists.
