As a child, curiosity and pleasure in nature for Robert Tucker originated in his grandmother's garden where he spent many hours amidst rows of assorted flowers, a wishing well, swings and a goldfish pond. At home, his artistic mother lined the shelves with her ceramic supplies, clay, paint and brushes, allowing Robert to explore in a creative space. The unfurling space didn't stop there. Robert's father was in the paper business where stacks and rolls of endless paper offered themselves up as more fuel for the imagination. Just as the garden offered Robert possibilities so did the materials found in the home and the family business, where all of these sources created a web to center himself in. As a diligent spider, Robert began to nest with threads that spewed forth a career in making collages, sculptures, morphed photographs, and paintings.
Robert has enjoyed the pleasure of exhibiting his work in galleries, public spaces, museums, papers, books and magazines. Today, new insights and awakenings keep him inspired, leading him to create his newest series: VISUAL JOURNALING 365.
VISUAL JOURNALING 365 is one year worth of creating five by five inch imagery. The only restriction was that at the end of each day the piece of art would be finished. None of the pieces would be reworked.
The many moods, creative flows and changes that happened in the span of a year have created a dynamic exhibit. In creating the "Self Portrait", Robert collaged cut paper and imagery onto his face from a photograph. This was the first step. For many months Robert watched the desert floor of the wash near his Rancho Mirage house crack and curl as the summer temperatures stayed in the hundreds. At the end of summer Robert took a series of photographs, two were used and morphed with the collaged face giving the end result.
Join Robert Tucker for the artist reception, presenting "VISUAL JOURNALING 365" on May 8, Friday, from 6pm to 10pm, at the Creative Center. Refreshments, great conversation, and a dynamic visual experience will be provided for FREE!
