ARTIST STATEMENTS
LORELEI GREENE
I have expressed myself primarily for 21 years as a jewelry artist & designer. I have done collage work for just about as long, placing these collages beneath glass for my jewelry pieces. I have done drawings & cartoons for the last 8 years...sometimes collaging into them as well. Many of these illustrations have worked their way under glass & into my adornments too.
I have always wanted to show my drawings on a larger scale. Recently, I discovered paper mache clay & loved the endless possibilities of it. When I started working with the clay, I found myself wanting to build a scene just like in the jewelry but bigger, with more actual space beneath the glass. I realized that I was making dioramas.
Having a deep imagination, interests in sacred things & a love for stories...my dioramas, drawings & collages are allegorical. I want to create beautifulplaces to draw in the onlooker, allow them to drift from their reality & tell them a quiet story or a joke. www.pavannejewelry.com

ELENA RAY
I am primarily a photographer. My main subjects are people and still life. The themes I am exploring are energy and healing systems, and archetypal psychology. I print with asian and handmade papers and mix painting, collage and other techniques with my photographs. This process has led me to develop painting and collage as separate mediums.

JANE MARU
As a child, I made a paint brush from cat fur, a stick and string, with a canvas of birch bark paper, mixed a pigment from mashed up berries and dirt. I felt it was important to source my art and make my own tools from nature.
Today, still instructed by nature, I "translate" and participate in an expression of the winds, spirits and play of natural design . My favorite tool, the ancient tjanting, drips hot beeswax as I layer wax and dyes onto natural fabrics. Emotionally, art is ultimately a practice in relinquishing control.
There is much delight to find in nature; it holds its own joys -- an open invitation to play, to interact and to experience a sense of wholeness and harmony. When people view my work, I hope they are experiencing some of nature's wonder, delight and the reverence I hold for it. I invite them to be present, silent, so that their own inklings or stories beyond conscious thought may emerge.
